This Privacy Policy explains how Sales Tax DataLINK ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the Sales Tax DataLINK application (the "App") for the BigCommerce platform. By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The App is a sales and use tax calculation service. It exists to determine the correct tax amount for transactions in your BigCommerce store and to support your tax reporting and compliance obligations.
1. Information We Collect
Store and account information
- Your BigCommerce store identifier (store hash), store name, and store URL(s)
- OAuth access tokens and scope grants issued by BigCommerce when you install the App
- Contact information for the store owner or administrator (name, email address)
- Your Sales Tax DataLINK account credentials and configuration settings
Transaction and order data
To calculate tax, the App receives and processes data associated with carts and orders, including:
- Shipping (destination) and billing addresses, including street, city, state/province, postal/ZIP code, and country
- Line-item details such as product identifiers, descriptions, quantities, prices, and applicable product tax codes
- Shipping charges, discounts, and order totals
- The buyer's name as it appears on the order
We do not collect or store payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or other payment credentials. Payment processing is handled by BigCommerce and its payment providers, not by the App.
Technical and usage data
- API request and response metadata (timestamps, request status, error codes)
- Log data used to operate, troubleshoot, and secure the service

- To calculate sales and use tax for your store's transactions
- To determine the correct taxing jurisdiction based on address data
- To generate tax reports and records that support your compliance and filing needs
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the App
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests
- To comply with legal, regulatory, and tax-authority obligations
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing to your customers.
3. How We Share Information
We share information only as needed to provide the service and as described below:
- BigCommerce: We exchange data with the BigCommerce platform through its supported APIs to receive transaction data and return tax results.
- Service providers: With vetted vendors that host our infrastructure or support our operations, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- Tax and government authorities: Where required to support tax filing, reporting, or to comply with applicable law.
- Legal requirements: When we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as your account or installation is active and for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, including meeting legal, tax, and recordkeeping requirements. Tax transaction records may be retained for the period required by applicable tax law. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
5. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. This includes encryption of data in transit, access controls, and secure handling of OAuth tokens and credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Uninstalling the App
When you uninstall the App from your BigCommerce store, the OAuth access token is revoked and the App can no longer access your store data. You may request deletion of your remaining data as described in the "Your Rights" section, subject to legal retention requirements.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of certain information, or to obtain a copy of it. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond consistent with applicable law. Because we process store and transaction data on behalf of the merchant, requests from a store's end customers should be directed to the merchant, and we will assist the merchant as needed.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States, and information we process may be stored and handled in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is a business tool intended for merchants and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
